Torroja
Description
The Technical Institute of Construction and Building was born in 1934 (now Eduardo Torroja Institute
for Construction Sciences IETcc), the first organization created in Spain to steer, further and publish
research on construction and related areas to foster progress, promoting the use of concrete and
cement.
For this purpose, in 1953 the present building was finished. A modern-functional style building,
designed by Echegaray, Barbero and Torroja is conceived. Singular shaped concrete elements,
precast concrete pieces and other singular structural reinforced concrete models were tested and
used.
Three architectonic elements in concrete of IETcc were chosen for their study taken into account
their singularity and their conservation state.
